First, one label is missing. Second, none of the labels are attached. They are just laid on the disc in the pictures. These discs have very few scratches or scuffs. The disc side with no label has a small dot of missing lacquer with bright aluminum shining through. This is from a needledrop. There are three or 4 of these. The disc played without skipping when I tested it.

It could cause a skip on more sensitive equipment. The white in the grooves looks to be a dirty wash. These discs could use a good cleaning.

This disc has a few scratches and scuffs. The lacquer is still tightly bonded to the aluminum cores. These discs are in above average condition for their age and type. See pictures.

Terry and the Pirates - 1940's Juvenile Adventure Action - recorded 3/26/1948

Here is a rare pair of discs. These are TWO 10" network transcription discs of Terry and the Pirates. Together they contain most of the audio from the 15 minute broadcast of 3-26-1948. This is the latest broadcast known to exist. It is an aircheck for Chicago radio station WENR. Unedited, the audio is a tad over 13 minutes. The commercial that is about halfway through the program and the introduction back to the program are cut. The rest sounds complete. At most there is 2 minutes of missing audio which is mostly commercial. This program is sponsored by Quaker Oats the makers of Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice breakfast cereal. The title run is The Mystery of the Pirate's Treasure and the Golden Serpent.

To my knowledge the previously latest known recording is dated November of 1947. This pair of discs are in excellent condition. These discs played with no issues when tested. See pictures.

The Jack Paar Show - 1940's Comedy / Variety - OBD October 1, 1947

These are TWO 12" lacquer,  NBC Orthacoustic transcription discs* of the Jack Parr Show. Together they contain one 30 minute broadcast. This broadcast is special because it is the first broadcast on the ABC network* for Jack Parr.  Prior to this, Jack Parr's program was a summer replacement for the Jack Benny Show. It is interesting to note that Jack Parr had a great mentor and supporter in Benny and American Tobacco, enough that it got him his own radio program which he pretty much sabotaged by not cooperating with the sponsor's suggestions of coming up with a weekly gimmick for "identity" with the public.

Paar told them that idea was "old hat" and he didn't want any part of it. Needless to say, Paar wasn't quite big enough at the time, to push the network or the sponsor around and they dropped him like a used tissue. His new radio program was very short lived, lasting only from October 1, 1947 to December 24, 1947. Of course, Paar went on to be a huge success in television and the rest is history.

The Jack Paar Program. October 1, 1947. ABC net. Sponsored by: Lucky Strike. The first show on a new network. sketches include , "if we could  hear what others are thinking", "the life of an usher and usherette", "a disc jockey show 200 years ago". L. A. Speed Riggs (auctioneer), Hy Averback, Jerry Fielding and His Orchestra, Martha Stewart, Jack Paar, F. E. Boone (auctioneer), Florence Halop.

The above description is courtesy of The Audiotorium of OTR.

These discs have very few surface scratches and/or scuff marks. They could use a good cleaning. Side two has a noticeable long scratch between the 5 and 6 o'clock position. The scratch did not cause any skipping. These discs are in better than average condition for their age.

These discs played with no issues when tested.

*The broadcast is definitely an ABC broadcast. The NBC Blue Network became ABC in 1943, yet in 1947 these discs still have NBC Blue Labels. Jack makes reference in the program about catching Bing's show following his. There is also an ABC identifying announcement at the end of the broadcast.

Here is a 16" lacquer transcription disc. Only one side has a label, which only has a stamp on it. The stamp on the labeled side indicates the recording is older than Dec 21, 1947 yet the other side is clearly dated in grease pencil as being from July 19, 1949. A mystery.  The reverse side has a handwritten label stating the program in the grooves is titled King Size Juke Box.

The disc has very few surface scratches or scuffs. It does have some palmitic cloudiness that needs to be addressed by the next owner. Discounting this, the disc is in above average condition.

Yank Swing Session - War Dept (No Number) - 1942

This is a black 16", heavy vinyl War Department transcription disc of Yank Swing Session. This is truly an oddity of a disc. For starters, there is no program number on either label.

The disc is etched with numbers and letters I have never seen before and can find no reference for.  This is a very early disc, pre-dating the AFRS label. Another clue, this disc is an inside start on both sides. My feeling is that this may have been a working copy at an Special Services Division location. I've seen many SSD and AFRS test pressings. This is not a test pressing. ANOTHER Clue is that it ends with an announcer saying it is part of the English language shortwave service. Perhaps shortwave stations had different discs. It IS however a VERY unique item. Some of these early Yank Swing Times contain unreleased material from some major stars. Is this program #1? It is definitely from 1942.

This disc holds 30 minutes of Martin Block introducing 2 songs each from 3 different bands.

Woody Herman : Three Little Sisters, Amen

Charlie Spivak : Me and Brother Bill, Let's Go Home

Jimmy Dorsey: Take Me (Helen O'Connell vocals), Tangerine (Helen O'Connell and Bob Eberly vocals), Blue Skies

This disc has a few surface scratches and/or scuffs. It is in average plus condition for its age and type. In the pictures, on side two there is a white streak above the label and a vertical scratch beneath. Both look horrible but in reality they are not much. The white streak is something like ink possibly from a wash..  the scratch is pretty shallow. Light angles make a difference. This disc played with no issues when tested. See pictures.

Lost Empire - 1930's  Adventure  - Pgms 25 / 26

Here is a very thick vinyl 16" transcription disc containing 2 full programs of a rare radio program titled, Lost Empire. On this disc is program #25 and #26. Lost Empire was a CP MacGregor syndicated radio series.

The announcer opens with ... "The adventures of Nicolai Rosanov. A tale of intrigue in the Russian imperial court of  Catherine the Great, of adventure in far corners of the world, of Russia's one time march toward the possesion of America's West coast. Based on the book Lost Empire: The recent biography of Nicolai Rezanov."

A basic search on The Google revealed the book is real. The author's name is Hector Chevigny. The full title of the book

is Lost Empire: The Life and Adventures of Nikolai Rezanov. Chevigny is known as an author and and career radio script writer of over 5000 broadcasts. He wrote this series for CP MacGregor based upon his own book. He was also the author of several programs for the  US Treasury Department including 75 scripts for the Treasury Salute series. Aside from these, he also wrote scripts for Hollywood Hotel, Woodbury Playhouse, Big town, Ceiling Unlimited and The Arkansas Traveler (Bob Burns)

The amazing thing is that he continued writing even when he was suddenly struck blind in 1943. A fascinating biography. I encourage you to look him up on The Google.

Lucille Ball - Desi Arnaz Testimonial Dinner  11/23/1958

This dinner was cut short as Harry 'Parkyurkarkus' Einstein, passed away onstage immediately after finishing his performance which many said was perhaps the best he ever gave.  For those of you who do not know who Harry Einstein was, look him up. He was the father of Albert Brooks and Bob Einstein (who recently passed away himself).

Philco Radio Time - Bing Crosby - Henry Fonda - Ethel Merman

WJZ Airchecks

One label says Bing Crosby's Program. For some reason it makes me giggle.

Two mated 16" lacquer transcription discs of Philco Radio Time. Together they hold 2 complete broadcasts. May 12, 1949 with Henry Fonda and the following week with Ethel Merman.

These discs are in below average condition with tightly bonded lacquer,  there are scuffs not a lot of surface scratches. There are a number of needle drops which show as bright pinpoints of aluminum against the black lacquer. The grooves are well worn. Aside from the needle drops there is a small 1cm circle where the lacquer is gone on the 5/19 part 2 disc. There are really odd edge chips on the 5/12 part 1 disc. The chips are all on the edge of the disc. only one or two grooves may be encroached upon. See pictures.  Priced to sell.
